Each year Bowral Dressage Club Inc conducts annual awards to recognise the success and achievements of our members. Once riders are financial members of the club, they are automatically eligible and included in our awards program. Please note all performances prior to the rider becoming a member are not considered.
Congratulations to our 2024 horse and rider combinations. Awards will be presented at the upcoming championships 5 - 6 April 2025.
Leaderboard overview
The Bowral Dressage Club Leaderboard is awarded to the Horse/Pony and Rider combinations with the highest combined performance score in the following categories:
1. Horse and Rider Leaderboard
Horse and Rider section is awarded to the Horse and Rider with the highest combined performance score in the following categories:
• Open Preliminary
• Open Novice
• Open Elementary
• Open Medium
• Open Advanced
• Open FEI
2. Amateur Owner Rider Leaderboard
Amateur Owner Rider (AOR) Horse and rider section is awarded to the Horse and Rider with the highest combined performance score ridden by an AOR in the following categories: (definition as per Equestrian Australia national dressage rules)
• AOR Preliminary
• AOR Novice
• AOR Elementary
• AOR Medium
• AOR Advanced
• AOR FEI
3. Pony Leaderboard
Pony leaderboard section is awarded to the Pony and Rider with the highest combined performance score in the following categories:
· Pony (preliminary – elementary)
· Pony (medium – FEI).
4. Young Rider Leaderboard
Young Rider Leaderboard section is awarded to the Horse and Rider with the highest combined performance score who is ridden by a person under the age of 21 in the following categories:
• Young Rider Preliminary
• Young Rider Novice
• Young Rider Elementary
• Young Rider Medium
• Young Rider Advanced
• Young Rider FEI
5. Closed Unrestricted Rider of the Year
Closed Unrestricted Horse of the Year is awarded to the Horse and Rider with the highest combined performance score with scores obtained from Closed Un-restricted competitions.
If a Horse and rider compete in both an official and unofficial class at the same competition, performances from the official class will be counted.
Criteria to be part of the leaderboard
Both riders and owners must be current financial members of Bowral Dressage Club to be included in the leaderboard .
Riders must compete a minimum of 4 official tests and attend 3 event days (championships are counted as 1 event) but you can ride in 2 levels over the 2 days and be included in 2 leaderboards. (FEI excluded)
You need to do a minimum volunteering of two hours over the calendar year, with a record being kept by the committee. This includes pencilling, office/ clubhouse duties, paper collecting, pack up or set up, working bees on non-event days.
Riders must nominate at the time of entry if they wish to compete as an AOR/Young rider or Pony for that competition
You can only win 1 leaderboard level per horse and rider combination, and it will be at the higher level.
You can win different levels if on different horses/ponies
Points will be awarded as follows
The horse’s 4 highest percentage scores obtained in the calendar year shall be averaged out to calculate their final percentage score. The highest final percentage will win each category. You will get a bonus point for each additional event you attend with that horse and rider combination after attending the 3 events to qualify
Points are not awarded to riders competing HC
If we lose events due to rain, the above can be changed at the discretion of the committee to 2 events and 3 tests with all other criteria staying the same.

Volunteer of the Year
This award is for volunteers who help out at, or prior, to our competitions by pencilling, office/ clubhouse duties, paper collecting, pack up or set up, etc.
